King Matthias (II. Mátyás) has long been hearing been words of mouth about foulness of the entourage of Erzsébet Bathóry. Political pressure makes him give order to Palatine (Prime Minister) Thurzó György to find out the truth about these incidents. He orders György to capture Erzsébet and to torture her until she confesses.

György, a long-standing friend of Erzsébet, gathers an escort of Erzsébets close relatives and friends and sets on a journey to Čachtice Castle.

György and his column reach Čachtice Castlein the late hours of 29th December. Outside rampart he sees an foul sight.
But foul is beautiful.
And beauty is precarious.

Kuningas Matias (II. Mátyás) on jo pitkään kuunnellut alamaistensa valituksia Cactichen linnassa tapahtuvista kauheuksista. Poliittisen paineen alla kuningas määrää Palatine György Thurzon selvittämään pitävätkö huhut paikkansa, vangitsemaan Erzsébetin ja kiduttamaan häntä, kunnes tämä tunnustaa.

György Thurzó, Erzsébetin pitkäaikainen ystävä, kokoaa seurueen Erzsébetin lähimmistä sukulaisista ja ystävistä ja lähtee matkaan.

Hän saapuu perille Cachticen linnaan myöhään illalla 29. joulukuuta. Linnan muurien ulkopuolella häntä odottaa näky, joka on ruma. Mutta ruma on kaunista. Ja kaunis arveluttavaa.
